Learn to Love to Read thanks their Wandsworth supporters
Wandsworth charity Learn to Love to Read is taking part in #YouMadeItHappen on Friday 11 October – a day when charities say 'thank you' to their supporters and let them know the difference their support has made.
Learn to Love to Read founder Teresa Harris said, “This school year our supporters are helping 90 Wandsworth children learn to love to read in six schools across Wandsworth. 60 trained volunteers are providing 75 hours a week of one-to-one support to five to seven year olds who find reading difficult. This term we will run more than 50 early literacy classes for children aged two to four as well as offering parent training opportunities in our partner schools. So I want to say a big thanks to our volunteers and supporters who've made this happen. It makes a big difference to the children we help.”
Children who've been part of the programme said:
“Thanks to my volunteer I am now a very confident reader and this has helped me get good marks in my tests.”
“I love to read and I would like to thank my reading volunteers because without them I don't think any of this would be possible.”
“I used to find reading very boring but when my reading volunteer came she made reading seem very fun and I am happier reading now.”
“When you read you feel like you're in another world and my reading volunteer helped me by making me feel like I wanted to read.”
“I like reading because it helps me calm down when I'm upset and when I started reading with my volunteer it made me better at reading.”
“I love to read. It's really helped me to express my feelings. My reading volunteer helped me read properly and I find it much easier to read now.”
“The volunteers helped me a lot and they were very kind and I'm very thankful.”
