Looking for green fingers in Tooting!

Looking for green fingers in Tooting!

Rachel Healy, Marketing and Communications Manager at Share Community (who run the Share Community Garden and Nurseries in Tooting) on the New Year and a new opportunity!

If you love gardening and being outdoors and want to help support adults with learning disabilities to live more independently, then we want to hear from you. We’re looking for horticulture trainers to work as bank staff at our gorgeous garden in Tooting where our horticultural training programme helps people develop self-esteem and take the next steps towards employment.

A flexible workforce is essential for us to provide continued quality support and services to our students. We need staff who can step in on an ad hoc basis to provide cover for our teachers at the garden when they’re on leave or unwell. Sessions usually run from 10am until 4pm on weekdays.

Our garden site is located within the grounds of Springfield Hospital in a beautiful and tranquil walled garden. Our students work all year round preparing, planting and propagating different plants in our polytunnels and glass house. They learn about garden and nursery maintenance, pests and disease control and safety in the garden. Learning new things whilst enjoying the fresh air and getting some exercise helps them build confidence and live happier, healthier lives.

We’re ideally looking for people who have experience working with adults with learning disabilities and a training qualification, but these are certainly not essential. What’s important is that you’re reliable, supportive, patient and caring. You may be self-employed, work flexibly or recently retired and wish to earn some extra money whilst giving back to your community.

Is this you? If so please do get in touch by contacting Leanne Wood on leannew@sharecommunity.org.uk or call 020 7801 9825.
