Katie Francesca has been teaching Pilates for three years, first experiencing the benefits of it during her dance career. She has also found it incredibly useful to restore strength, back health and posture that had been lost through sitting at a desk everyday, something that many of us can relate to! Pilates caters to men and women of all ages and is a great calorie-burner.
Katie is now offering Pilates classes for expectant mothers. “It’s a perfect form of exercise during your pregnancy for both you and your growing baby,” says Katie, “and it’s suitable to do right up until the birth, but the pace will adapt as your pregnancy progresses. Pilates does not put a strain on the joints or back, but actually strengthens your back, stomach and muscles around the pelvic area, allowing an easier pregnancy, delivery and recovery.”
Katie's classes will address postural changes during the trimesters and she will work with you to set a foundation in deep abdominal strength to support your baby. Classes are taught with a maximum of eight mums-to-be and are suitable for the second and third trimesters. Classes are held at 7.30pm every Wednesday in Tooting Bec. Check her website for times of other classes.
Katie also offers post-natal classes – get in touch with her directly regarding your return to exercise post-birth. However, you must get the go-ahead from your health professional after your 6-week check up (if you have had a cesarean section, it is likely to be a bit longer).
