Tooting Market - what's in store? Part 3!

Tooting Market - what's in store? Part 3!

Welcome to part 3 of our mini-series on Tooting Market, and we want to talk all about foooood.

Not read parts 1 and 2? No problem, you can find them here and here.

Tooting Market has all sorts of tasty food stalls for you to try. We have of course frequented all of these establishments, purely in the name of research. Oh, we’ve got such a tough job...

The Lone Fisherman

Chris with his carrot, chocolate and rum cakes!

The jovial Chris, aka The Lone Fisherman, has been at the market for 3 years and sells all sorts of wonderful homemade Caribbean food, including salt fish and ackee, goat curry, patties, all sorts of cake and excellent chilli sauces. The menu is ever-changing, so it’s always good to pop down to see what he’s got to offer that day, (and if you’re anything like us, stay for a chat and a bit of rum cake). He recommends his famous honey smoked salmon and fried dumplings for the uninitiated. And try his sorrel juice, or a tea, coffee or soft drink.

You can follow Chris on Twitter and Facebook. He’s open 9.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday and 9.30am to 4.00pm on Sunday.

Manger Des Iles

Ravi of Manger Des Iles with a fresh plate of rotis

Ravi has been running Manger Des Iles for 3 years and he serves amazing Mauritian food. For those unfamiliar with Mauritian cuisine, he’ll happily talk you through the food available, but he recommends you try a biriyani or some fried noodles. Dahi Puri, a roti containing butterbeans, tomato and vegetable pickle, is always popular and often runs out, and octopus is always a hit! He also serves teas, soft drinks, hot chocolate and freshly ground coffee.

You can follow Ravi on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. He’s open 9.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday and 9.30 to 4.30 Sunday.

Get Juiced

Leon and Jasmine at Get Juiced bar.

Leon is proud that every option at Get Juiced is vegan (and the vast majority are gluten-free) and delicious. A whole manner of fresh fruit and vegetable juice and smoothies are available, as well as cakes and a soup of the day. There’s also a self-service stall where you can buy a plethora of nuts, grains, and dried fruit. And why not try a 3-day juice cleanse to detoxify or a herbal tea? And there’s usually some cracking music playing!

Leon can be found on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. He’s open 9.00am to 6.00pm every day.
