The Graveney Canteen launches (and lunches) today, June 5th!
Be Enriched is a youth and community charity which cares hugely about the environment and people, specifically food waste and hunger. One of their projects, Brixton People’s Kitchen has been delivering free nutritious food to the community for 4 years.
Now it’s time for Tooting! Their newest venture is The Graveney Canteen, to be held at Tooting United Reform Church every Friday from 1pm to 2:30pm. Food is intercepted before it hits the bins and used in creative ways to provide nutritious and healthy meals. It will be run by local volunteers with access to free training, cooking demonstrations and health advice. Responding to the needs of the community, The Graveney Canteen hopes to bring people together through delicious food and support them with fun, advice and board games.
It will open on Friday the 5th of June, which is United Nations World Environment Day. The theme is Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. The GC hope to fulfil a few bellies with delicious food as Jamie Oliver’s 15 restaurant has loaned them their chefs to work with local volunteers to help create a three course meal from reclaimed and surplus food. They can't guarantee you'll get all 3 courses as they serve until it’s gone, so best to get there early! The food is free but all donations are welcome.
Seating from 1pm at Tooting United Reformed Church, Rookstone Road, SW17 9NQ.
If you'd like to volunteer, have a skill to share, or would like to play some live music, please sign up here.
The Graveney Canteen looks forward to meeting you and sharing some GOOD FOOD!
