Tooting Businessman Seeks Aid for Nepal Earthquake Victims
Some words from Bobby Singh, who recently travelled to Nepal to aid victims of the earthquakes.
I’m just a normal family man that has a business in Tooting callled Russells Trade and DIY. After seeing the horrific and heart touching scenes in Nepal, I thought I had to be there and help in any way I can. Luckily, I have some Nepalese contacts in the UK who put me in touch with two families that I could stay with.
I landed on Friday 8th May and had already set up a meeting for Saturday morning on what we were going to do for the next six days. By Monday, we had been to Dhading on the mountains and distributed tarpaulins, mats and blankets to two rural villages.
Before I travelled, I sent £7,500 worth of safety equipement – 10,100 dustmasks, 2,500 pairs of gloves, 200 LED torches, 100 knee pads and 100 safety glasses from our shop and manufacturers.
I also managed to secure £4,000 in donations from my family to buy villagers in remote areas 6 tonnes of rice, 300 tarpaulins for shelter, blankets, mats and corrugated sheeting for roofs.
I am now trying to raise £50,000 to build 500 semi-permanent homes before the monsoon season starts in less than 2 months time. I have the manpower and materials all ready but need funding. I will personally go to oversee this as have workforce materials and additional man power in place.
If you can donate, please visit my Facebook page or GoFundMe page. There will also be a fundraising BBQ on Thursday 2nd July from 7.30pm at The Imperial Durbar on Trinity Road, a few doors form Tooting Bec Station.
