Tooting to get major road improvement cash injection
Wandsworth Council has welcomed news that the busy junction at Tooting Broadway will be the centre point for a major street improvement and pedestrian safety project.
Funding of between £2 to 5m is set to be invested as part of a pilot pedestrian town centre improvement programme launched today by the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL). The aim is to help redesign junctions, streets and pavements to make them safer for pedestrians and raise awareness of safety issues among all road users.
The scheme will centre on the Tooting Broadway junction, the recent site of a performance as part of The Streets London. TfL will work closely with Wandsworth Council to prepare the new designs. Consultations with local residents and stakeholders are expected to begin later this year. The scheme could be completed by April 2018.
