​ ​	Mayank Patel, our local pharmacist, is part of the Pearl Chemist Group, and passionate about health matters in the community. He’s keen to let Tooting residents know about the free healthchecks that Pearl offers.

If you’re aged 40 to 74 and haven’t been diagnosed with a major health problem beforehand, then we’d like to offer you a free healthcheck.

You’ll be shown to a private consultation room and the process will be thoroughly explained to you. The procedure includes:

• Your height, weight and blood pressure being taken
• questions about your alcohol intake and if you smoke
• a pinprick sample of blood (which you’ll hardly feel) being taken.

You’ll then receive the results of your blood pressure, as well as your cholesterol level, Body Mass Index (BMI), risk of contracting diabetes, and the chance of having a heart attack or stroke in the next ten years.
 

Anyone who wants a healthcheck can walk into the chemist and be seen straight away if a staff member is available. This service is also offered at Aukland Rogers Pharmacy on Garratt Lane. We advise participants to at least two pints of water beforehand and to make sure that they have warm hands as it makes the blood sample easier to extract (so wear gloves when you head out!).

The whole procedure takes around 30 minutes and we’ll make it as relaxed as we can. We pride ourselves on our friendly and professional staff. You’re encouraged to ask questions about your health too – don’t think that this is a one-way procedure. We can tell you all about your health and how how to make small changes to live a healthier lifestyle. Your information will be sent to your GP, and of course kept entirely confidential. 

Many people prefer to get their health checked at their local pharmacy as it’s sometimes quicker than getting it done at their GP surgery – it also frees up their GP to handle more serious health matters for those who need it.
