Free film screening in Tooting Market
Tooting Cares, a new social action group of parents and others, invites everyone to a free showing of Oscar-winning documentary “White Helmets” from 8pm on Tuesday 7th March at Tooting Market.
Emma, leader of Tooting Cares, says, “We’re simply a group of like-minded people with a shared passion to help and stand in solidarity with people who are in need or at a disadvantage. Initially we got together so we could run a fundraising event to raise money for the Syrian White Helmets in reaction to the horror we were all seeing on a daily basis. From there we realised there was a lot of potential good we can do for charities through more events and collections for causes we believe in including those people closer to home in our community.
“Our next event is a free screening in Tooting Market of the Oscar-winning documentary on the White Helmets. As well as opening people's eyes to the real human tragedies behind this conflict, we want to help raise the profile of the White Helmets who are still saving lives across Syria but also make people ask themselves ‘what can I do?’ for refugees of any conflict in our area. To answer those questions we have speakers from CARAS, Syria Solidarity Campaign, The Refugee Council and Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP, and we’ll be running a Q&A after the screening to guide people on how they can use their heartfelt concern for a practical use. We hope the event will also create a feeling of solidarity within our multi-cultural Tooting community as a direct reaction to all the divisive politics around our country and the world right now.”
