New Tooting Charity to help bereavement sufferers
A new local charity aiming to radically improve the way bereavement is managed in the UK is holding a key fundraising event this weekend, supported by Big Yellow Self Storage in Wandsworth, which has donated 100sq ft of free space.
On Saturday 4th February, The Good Grief Trust will be hosting its ‘Bag a Bargain’ fundraising sale at St. Anselm's Church in Tooting, and with donations of belongings flooding in, charity founder Linda Magistris was desperate to find somewhere to keep the items. Hearing of her plea over Twitter, the Big Yellow Store in Wandsworth stepped in to help her out with some free storage space.
Linda launched The Good Grief Trust four months ago on BBC Breakfast after losing her partner (Graham Theakston, BAFTA award winning director) two years ago to a rare form of cancer, and finding it difficult to find the correct support and guidance to help her with her grief.
The Good Grief Trust drives forward a new national initiative to provide Britain’s only umbrella organisation bringing all bereavement charities and services onto one online support website. Alongside working with all key national charities, The Good Grief Trust also has a relationship with Carolyn Harris MP, who is working with Linda to discuss these issues in Parliament.
Linda Magistris, CEO/Founder of The Good Grief Trust, says, “When my partner passed away, I discovered gaping holes in our bereavement support net across the country, so after extensive research, I’m passionate about helping others who are suffering grief. We are extremely grateful to Big Yellow for supporting us with the storage; it will make a huge difference to our profits and makes it so much simpler for people to donate their unwanted goodies.”
Nick O’Sullivan, Store Manager at Big Yellow Wandsworth, comments, “Linda has been a customer of our store for quite some time, so when we heard of her need for charity storage, we really wanted to offer our services. We’re always looking for ways we can help support the local community, and we hope providing Linda with some free storage will help take some of the weight off her shoulders ahead of her great event this weekend.”
The ‘Bag a Bargain’ fundraising event will take place at:
The Old Hall, St. Anselm's Church, Balham High Rd, SW17 8BS
Saturday 4th February, 11am to 3pm.
Attending: Debbie Flint, QVC Presenter and patron of The Good Grief Trust.
Good quality donations wanted: clothes, gifts, toys, books, homewares etc. to be brought on the day, or telephone the charity office on 0208 946 3310 to arrange drop off at Big Yellow Storage, Wandsworth.
So pop along on Saturday, bag a bargain and help a small local charity with big ambitions!
