Tooting mum starts charity to address Moroccan poverty
Les Alizes is a new, Tooting-based, non-registered charity created to highlight and alleviate poverty in Morocco.
It was started this year by local resident Consuelo Addari and her mother, who have been to Morocco several times, and witnessed the poverty in the country. “We couldn’t ignore it,” says Consuelo, “We started shipping clothes, shoes, stationery and toys to people there. It has helped a little in desert and mountain villages, as well as Marrakech, Essaouira orphanage house (near Marrakech) and a nearby nursery.”
“This is just what two people can do – imagine how much difference we could make if everyone helped a little. We’ve created a Crowdfunding page to raise money to provide food parcels and nappies to a disabled woman in Essaouira. We’ll also holding a fundraising Summer Fair to support vulnerable people in Morocco, mostly women with kids. We are looking for donations of food, money, prizes for raffles – anything really.”
You can find out more about Les Alizes and see the work that they’re doing on their Facebook and Twitter pages. Email Conseulo directly at nosalizes@gmail.com if you’d like to donate or help out at all.
