The Tooting Islamic Centre has received hundreds of donations in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Centre put the call out for donations and assistance on Wednesday morning via social media and was soon inundated with offers of help and donations of clothes, food, toiletries and more, collecting donations weighing nearly a ton.

Arshad Daud, Assistant Secretary of Balham Mosque & Tooting Islamic Centre said, "The Board of Trustees and the Management Committee is very grateful for the support and solidarity shown by all the residents of Tooting and beyond for helping us to deliver critical supplies to the affected parts near Grenfell Tower.

"The response we experienced in Tooting was amazing and just shows how attached we are as a community and how much we have in common. Thank you everyone!”

The Centre is currently not taking any more donations as there is no space at Grenfell Tower to receive them. However, you can donate to the Grenfell Tower appeal at https://secure.thebiggive.org.uk/grenfell.
