Urban influenced classical music project inspired by India
Geometric is a music project by composer, percussionist and Tooting resident Dom Aversano, comprised of four geometrically inspired compositions (trapezium, crescent, circle, pyramid), written for the Hang, cello, and percussion.
“The inspiration for the project came from my study of an ancient Indian rhythmic language called konnakol,” says Dom, “which allows a person to deconstruct and reconstruct rhythm in profound and beautiful ways.”
Dom describes the project as “...a cultural bridge, where ancient Indian music ideas, the new Swiss instrument the Hang (or handpan), a Japanese cellist, French designer, Argentine filmmaker, British engineer and composer meet and collaborate!”
The project has been supported by NASA astronaut Ron Garan, called “fascinating” by The Guardian journalist George Monbiot, and been backed by leading world percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger.
Dom is currently crowdfunding for this project, and has reached 94% of his goal in two weeks. More can be found out about the project at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/geometric-music/x/6099265#/
