Tooting's Young Entrepreneurs: Will Barnard
Continuing our series featuring some of Tooting’s great young entrepreneurs, today we introduce videographer and photographer, Will Barnard.
Will’s company, Platypus Productions, covers everything from corporate and business films all the way through to documentaries, crowdfunding videos, web series and weddings.
Having first picked up a camera at the age of six, Will has always had an affinity for the visual arts. He studied modern history and politics at the University of Leicester whilst also learning to DJ. He then had a five year career in sales marketing and events with a large FTSE 100, which is where the idea for his own production company first came about.
He often worked with media or video production companies who either failed to deliver the end product or spent an inordinate amount of time in the planning phase and so, having understood from a client perspective how much this can affect a business, Will decided to found Platypus Productions to provide responsive, creative and personal solutions to both individuals and businesses of all sizes.
“I've always been creative and have always carried a camera with me everywhere and being a keen surfer, I loved seeing the incredible photos and videos the industry produce. Having got closer and closer to video production in my previous career, I decided to take the leap 1 ½ years ago and founded Platypus Productions and haven't looked back. I’ve had rather an unusual career path to what I do now but wouldn't change a single minute of it!
Will continues, “what drives me in my business is people and I've been incredibly lucky to meet some fantastic business owners and work on some incredible projects so I'd just love to carry on helping people tell their story. I'd also like to get more involved with the community in Tooting.”
Although originally having grown up at the opposite end of the spectrum in a country pub and wedding venue near Tonbridge in Kent, Will has called Tooting home for five months now and has great friends and local connections in the area.
“I moved to Tooting because I love the frenetic energy that London has and wanted to be in the heart of it. I love the cultural diversity and interesting food that's on offer here. My favourite parts of Tooting are the common and the two markets because you always get overpowered by delicious smells and the fruit and veg is fantastic value.”
We look forward to watching Will grow Platypus Productions in the months and years to come!
