Tooting's Young Entrepreneurs: Yetunde Olajokun

Continuing our series featuring some of Tooting’s great young entrepreneurs, today we introduce fashion designer Yetunde Olajokun and her luxury label, House of Eliora.

With a natural eye for detail and being fascinated by hand beading, lace, exquisite fabrics and embroidery from a young age, Yetunde started her journey as a designer by making dresses for herself, friends and family. After years perfecting her art, she organically built a strong clientele and following which then developed into a full-time business.

House of Eliora specialises in bespoke Occasion wear, Bridal wear and couture Made-to-Order dresses, infused by African and contemporary European culture which inspires designs that are daring, luxurious and extravagant. The company is grounded in four pillars of quality, craftsmanship, design and fit and each garment is finished and perfected by Yetunde herself to deliver a personalised and tailored experience.

Yetunde told us, “I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, especially being a Mum to three young children, and after having worked in an unfulfilling NHS admin roles for 9 years, I felt I needed a change of direction. Over the last few years I have developed a huge interest in and passion for design and creation of fashion wear, particularly although not exclusively, occasion wear.”

Originally from Peckham, Yetunde’s business is now based out of the Trident Business Centre in Tooting after becoming a client of Business Launchpad. “Business Launchpad has helped me turn my vision into reality”, says Yetunde. “With regular business counselling from my mentor, I’ve learned how to market my designs and service effectively to reach potential customers in order to make my business a success. I have more knowledge and now understand the formal side of running a business.”

Yetunde recently featured on the BBC 1 series “Going Back Giving Back” with Aled Jones which helped to publicise her business and led to an investment by established businessman Dr Rami Ranger, who funded her industrial Sewing machine as well as promotional brochures.

All of Yetunde’s designs are daring, luxurious and extravagant!

So what are Yetunde’s business ambitions over the coming months & years? “Quite simply, I want to be a successful fashion designer with a sustainable business that I can grow”, she responds. “I want to be known for producing the best quality and well fitted garments and to continuously deliver excellent service and see the company grow to the point where I'm astonished by how much it has improved and achieved. This is my ambition because nothing feels better to me than knowing that I'm constantly delivering a good service. On top of that, I would love to have a fashion school where I can help students to develop their skills in sewing and bring imaginations to life.”

You can find out more about Yetunde & her business on the House of Eliora website and follow her journey on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
