Learning, Living & Wellbeing – the Share Community Open Day

Learning, Living & Wellbeing – the Share Community Open Day

| by Share Community Garden | Posted in News, Health & Fitness

Kavita Bowry, Communications and Development Manager at Share Community with details of their upcoming Community Open Day, highlighting their training and employment support options for disabled adults.

Education, education, education. This has been a well-used mantra for years, but all too often many of us take the educational opportunities given to us from a very early age for granted.

As many families return from their summer breaks in September, those close to reaching adulthood will be thinking about and looking for their next steps in the world of further education, training and employment.

For families with a disabled child, this transitional period from children services to adult services can be a particularly anxious time. Many believe (wrongly) that there are no options for their child after they leave school or college. At Share Community, we challenge this belief everyday – we provide training and employment support for disabled adults, helping people to be the best they can and helping them to lead independent fulfilled lives.

Join us for Share Community’s Open Day on Thursday 14th September 2017, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm (starting with lunch), to find out more about what we do and how we do it.

We teach independent living skills, basic skills (English and maths), catering and digital skills at our facilities in Battersea, and horticulture at our 2.5-acre garden in Tooting, based within the grounds of Springfield University Hospital. And we operate two social enterprises – Share Catering and Share Gardening – to provide safe and supported employment opportunities for our students.

In addition, we provide a range of programmes aimed at personal development, health and wellbeing, such as yoga, Zumba, creative writing and music.

We also run a fun social programme, called Go Anywhere, Do Anything for people with learning disabilities to get out and about in and around London.

Our Open Day is aimed at professionals or parents/carers who work with, support or care for disabled adults, as well as students who are looking to take their next step in education or employment.

During the day, you'll hear about:

  • how we are making all our courses more practical and community-based and why;
  • how we are integrating health and wellbeing, digital and employability skills into all areas of our training;
  • how we're working to involve parents and carers so we can better support the people they care for.

You'll have a chance to take a look at our facilities, including our digital, interactive Immersive Learning Centre, and you'll have an opportunity to talk with senior managers, tutors, staff and current students about life at Share, and find out how you can refer someone to study at Share.

The Share Community Open Day takes place at Share Community HQ, Share Community Ltd, 64 Altenburg Gardens, London SW11 1JL on 14 September, 12.30pm to 3.30pm. You can book your place for Share's Open Day online at or RSVP by emailing or calling 020 7801 9821.

Share Community is a registered charity based in Wandsworth that provides training and employment support for disabled adults, including those with learning disabilities, autism, physical/sensory impairments and mental health needs.

We work with people across the boroughs in London. Students are usually referred to us by their professional support network (eg, social workers), their family/carers or people can refer themselves.
