Tooting Town Centre are excited to launch the Take Pride in Your Tooting campaign, encouraging businesses and residents to take care and pride in the area so that it's clean, attractive and well cared for.

The Town Centre wants everyone in Tooting to be aware of the following information regarding rubbish.

INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS

Rubbish WILL NOT BE COLLECTED from landings, alleyways or back gardens.

Residents who have properties which have a front garden

DO use a dustbin with a securable lid to prevent litter and deter rats and foxes.

DO leave rubbish in your front garden where collection staff will see it.

DO leave your recycling out at the same time as your rubbish as both will be collected at the same time.

DON’T put rubbish or recycling on the street – you risk getting a fine of £80 or more.

Residents who have properties which don’t have a front garden

DO put your rubbish bags on the street before 6.30am on a Monday.

DO use strong black sacks which are securely tied.

DO only place your bags next to your own front door.

DON’T put bags on the street before 6.30pm on a Sunday evening.

REPORTING FLYTIPPING

Wandsworth Council’s Waste Enforcement Team will catch and prosecute people who illegally dump rubbish (flytipping) since this spoils the environment and makes the surroundings look untidy and neglected.

The Council makes every effort to clear dumped rubbish when it is reported.

If you see anyone dumping rubbish, without putting yourself or others at risk:

  1. Note the time, date, location, vehicle registration number & descriptions of people involved.
  2. Take photographs since these are helpful.
  3. Contact the Council by calling 020 8871 8558 or emailing wasteservices@wandsworth.gov.uk

All information given will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Never dump rubbish on the street or pay ‘cowboys’ to take away your waste. The Council provides waste and recycling collections and bulky and garden waste collection services.

INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES IN TOOTING

It is a legal requirement for businesses to take all reasonable steps to keep waste safe. If a business gives someone else their waste to take away it must do so with a registered waste carrier who will remove their waste, transport it, recycle or dispose of it safely.

The carrier must be registered with the Environment Agency or the Scottish Environment Agency. Check the carrier’s certificate of registration or check directly with the environment agency that the carrier is registered with.

Businesses are fully responsible for ensuring that they manage their waste responsibly and comply with the law.

Rubbish and recycling can be either collected from inside a business premises or from the street. If collected from the streets, waste has to be collected between 10am to noon and 10pm to midnight.

Businesses which leave their waste in the wrong place or at the wrong time will receive a penalty charge notice (PCN). If the waste (in bags) is not collected during the allotted time, then it must be taken back in again by the business and put out again at the next time slot.

“Waste issues and flytipping affects all of us in Tooting,” says Brian Albuquerque, Tooting Town Centre Manager, “not only is it unsightly and smelly, but it also attracts vermin and is dangerous to road users if it spills out on the street. However, it doesn’t take much effort to dispose of your waste properly. The Town Centre and Council are here to help, but we will crack down on people who dispose of waste illegally. Please follow these rules and take pride in Tooting to keep it a clean, safe and attractive area for all of us!”
