New co-working space comes to Tooting

New co-working space comes to Tooting

| by Tooting Newsie | Posted in News

Trident Business Centre (TBC) has a new co-working space called CORK, with the help of home improvement retailer Wickes, social enterprise Volunteer It Yourself (VIY), and 10 young volunteers.

TBC is a social enterprise using 100% of operating profits to support the charity Business Launchpad, which helps disadvantaged young people aged 16-30 to become entrepreneurs, and supports 150 start-ups every year. Home to over 80 local businesses, TBC is a dynamic community hub for start-ups and established businesses.

Reaching full capacity, and recognising a local need for more business space, it has been a long term ambition to have a co-working space at TBC and to further support their clients with affordable and flexible work space.

The build was carried out in association with VIY, which helps young people aged 14-24 to learn building skills by fixing local community buildings. The Wimbledon branch of Wickes donated all of the materials required for the project free of charge.

“We’re very excited to have participated in such a project with young people, as supporting young people is at the core of what we do”, said Miranda Stirling, Project Manager at Trident Business Centre, “we now have a new co-working space which will benefit young entrepreneurs starting their own businesses.”

Greg Rose, Store Manager at Wickes in Wimbledon said, “We’re delighted that we were able to help The Trident Centre by ensuring that they had all the materials and tools they needed for this valuable project. It’s great to be involved with such a worthwhile project which gets young people excited while teaching them useful skills.”

CORK will be opening its doors in early October, offering both daily (£19.99) and monthly (£199.00) packages of flexible and fixed desks, as well as access to meeting rooms and events space, virtual offices and business and peer support. Located in Tooting, (with coffee and food available on-site at Mac’s Café), CORK is a great space to create and develop a business. All of the profits from CORK will be reinvested into Business Launchpad which provides free support to young people starting their own enterprise.
