​	As people have been saying with increasing regularity recently, “winter is coming!” Here, Ed Barros of Tooting-based Permanex Plumbing gives us a quick run-down of how to make sure your heating’s working before the chill sets in (and you could save a bundle).

Every winter, we receive loads of calls from people with failed heating, leaving them shivering. This invariably costs a large amount of money to fix, and yet could be nipped in the bud by checking your heating now – just follow these quick and easy steps:

1. To check your heating, you’ll need to set your programmer to come on.
2. Make sure that the room thermostat (if you have one) is set above the current room temperature.
3. Once the heating has been on for a while, check that the radiators are hot evenly from top to bottom.
4. Should there be a cold spot on the top, the radiators may simply need bleeding. Make sure that you check the boiler pressure after this as it may need topping up. There are videos on our website which cover this – click here for details.
