St George’s aims to provide Outstanding Care, Every Time
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has launched its new Quality Improvement Plan.
The plan is designed to help St George’s achieve its ambition of providing Outstanding Care, Every Time for all of its patients, wherever they are treated.
The plan covers everything from the way the Trust manages complaints, to how it reduces the number of hospital acquired infections.
Its purpose is to ensure that:
- Every patient receives safe and outstanding care
- The right patient is seen in the right place at the right time, every time
- Staff say “I’m proud to work at St Georges’
- All staff – wherever they work – can shine and contribute to the future of the Trust.
Jacqueline Totterdell, Chief Executive, said, “Our plan is part of our ambition to become an outstanding organisation. It is also the start of our journey towards providing Outstanding Care, Every Time for our patients, wherever they are treated.
“The plan has been in development for some time, and has been shaped by our staff – which is crucially important if we are going to improve care for the patients we treat, and communities we serve.”
The plan is made up of three improvement programmes, which are:
- Providing safe and effective care; to consistently deliver the fundamentals of patient care and ensure that improvements made are sustained in the long term
- Flow and clinical transformation; to make the process and operational changes to improve the flow of patients along their care pathway, from arrival through to discharge
- Quality and risk; to ensure the handling of risk effectively across the organisation through systems and processes that are used and understood by staff
These are supported by two enabling programmes:
- Estates and IT; improving systems and environment so that the Trust is making what’s right for patients the easiest thing for staff to do
- Leadership and engagement; ensure current and future leaders are supported and developed to deliver high quality, compassionate care, and that the Trust engages with staff who know the services best.
