All about BATCA – Balham and Tooting Community Association
After the tragic London events of 7/7/2005, a group of concerned and motivated locals set up BATCA – the Balham and Tooting Community Association.
BATCA’s aim is to bring together locals from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to work collectively. BATCA promotes local groups and enables them to share news through e-bulletins and their website.
One of the wonderful ways BATCA brings our community together is with their annual multi-faith peace ceremony. This year it was held on the 14th of November and saw leaders of different faiths, together with the public, express their wishes for peace and a unified community.
BATCA also organise the Community Awards Scheme which celebrates local heroes. This year’s awards will be presented at a ceremony on Tuesday 28th November, at The Grand Room on Upper Tooting Road. There will be live entertainment and food available on the night. Along with celebrating our locals that go above and beyond, the event is a great way to meet people from the many diverse corners of Tooting. If you would like to attend the awards ceremony, register here.
Kate Allan, BATCA’s secretary, has been involved with the association since it was first formed. Kate loves the ‘energy, life and buzz’ of Tooting, as well as its ‘diverse mix of people and culture’. She would love to enlarge the circle of volunteers for BATCA, so if you would like to get involved then attending their quarterly meetings is a great start.
