We feel so lucky to have Tooting Common on our doorstep and we’re certainly not alone in feeling this way, judging by the huge number of posts that regularly appear on Instagram from local users out and about enjoying the green, open spaces!

• Love and ashes • It’s Valentine’s Day and I’ve got David Bowie stuck in my head - ashes to ashes - because this year the festival of love is also the first day of Lent. It seems a little contradictory to be confronting your own mortality with ashes and simultaneously celebrating the supremacy of love. The Ash Wednesday words - ‘for we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it,’ seem a little out of place in their truthfulness. Yet, if our time is short, what is the definition of a life well lived? It is not, as John Paul Getty might have said, vast and endless wealth. It is not receiving the praise and approval of people who you work with. It isn’t measured in good dinners eaten or fine wines drunk. All of this, ultimately, is hollow if there’s no love. No one to spend the money on, no one to be sad at your passing, no heart in the conversation over the table. It is almost trite to say: a life well lived is a life filled up with and poured out in love. Ashes return to ashes and dust to dust but these three remain: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love. • • • • • • • • • • #love #valentines #thiscommonyear #london #tooting #balham #aseasonalyear #winterstories #thequietwinter #anatural_midwinter #thewildnesstonic #stayandwander #gowildlyandslow #allthingsbotanical #botanicalpickmeup #inspiredbynature_ #ataleofseasons #seasonspoetry #awhisperedbeauty #embracingtheseasons #intentionalseasons
