Employability Project for Young Black Men Comes to Tooting
|
This month, Iman Ogoo, Youth Engagement Project Administrator at Jimmy Asher Foundation talks about Parity, a new project set up to help unemployed and underemployed young black men. |
The Jimmy Asher Foundation has teamed up with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) to provide an employability project for young black men.
The Parity Project, developed with three strategic partners of ELBA - Numora, XL Catlin and and State Street – is aimed at improving the employability of unemployed/underemployed young black men aged 18-28 as well as granting access to sustainable career opportunities. The project will shortly be coming to Tooting Hub on Beechcroft Road, where representatives will give more information to attendees, answer questions, and address any concerns.
Parity is not your ordinary careers project – in addition to confidence-building CV surgeries and mock interviews, the young men of Parity will also have the opportunity to receive one-to-one mentoring, go on corporate insight tours and company visits and attend networking seminars with professionals, all within industries that lack diversity in the workforce, such as private finance and investment sectors.
JAF will also be running an additional careers project with different partners which will be inclusive for all to apply, but the Parity Project focuses on the fact that unemployment rates for young black men in the UK are double that of their white counterparts. Even those with degrees suffer greatly when it comes to unemployment.
The Parity project is currently recruiting participants London-wide, so for more details, please contact the Jimmy Asher Foundation at info@jimmyasherfoundation.org
