Lots to share at Share!

Lots to share at Share!

| by Share Community Garden | Posted in News

It’s been quite a month at Share and there’s more to come this summer! Kavita Bowry, Communications and Development Manager at Share Community gives us an update...

Thank you to everyone in our community who joined us earlier this month in the Share Garden in Tooting to help us celebrate the official launch of Share’s gardening social enterprise, Share Nurseries. It was an absolute joy to see everyone for what was a beautiful (sunshiny!) fun day and everything we’d hoped for. Thank you also to all our kind sponsors – all local businesses in the Tooting area – for their support and commitment to Share.

Don’t forget Share Nurseries is your local community garden nursery, which grows local so you can buy local. We are now open Monday to Friday (except public holidays), from 9am to 3pm for plant sales, so come visit and find out more about how we are providing work-related opportunities for disabled people!

Hot on the heels of the launch was super-exciting news that Share has been awarded been awarded Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society to become only the second accredited organisation in Wandsworth and the first day care service in the borough to achieve accreditation.

The award recognises that Share is committed to understanding autism and setting the standard for autism practice, and has involved a three-year journey to review and improve every part of Share, from making its environment less cluttered and brighter through to making sure its communication is accessible and autism friendly.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll also be taking part in a number of community events in the borough, including Springfield University Hospital’s NHS70 celebrations on 5th July from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, where you can find out more about what Share does and buy plants from Share Nurseries. In addition, we’ll also be exhibiting at the Wandsworth Autism Fayre at the Tooting Leisure Centre on 11th July from 10.30am to 4pm – come along and say hello!

All of this means we’re growing, and working hard to continuously improve all our services for the people we support. And so much of what we do simply couldn’t be done without the support of our lovely band of volunteers. We’re always looking for new volunteers to help in all areas of our work, so if you have some spare time and want to get involved and become a part of this amazing community, get in touch! Contact our People and Projects Manager, Leanne Wood, via email to find out more.
