Established in 1936, Broadway Market is one of South London’s oldest markets and has recently undergone a dramatic transformation.

Inside is a wonderful mix of old and new, with small family businesses (some of which have been there from almost the very beginning) nestled in amongst a myriad of trendy new food and drink venues that have popped up over the last few years.

There are over one hundred stalls selling food (you can grab your breakfast, lunch and dinner there), drinks, groceries, clothes, electronics, homewares and services ranging from bike repair to nail care. All of these reside under one roof, reflecting Tooting’s distinct and diverse flavour.

Broadway Market features food from all around the world – French crepes, Mexican tacos, Caribbean cuisine, Japanese sushi and gyoza, Irish-influenced baguettes, a Filipino style rotisserie, Spanish tapas – and, of course, you can get a full English breakfast.

Recent additions to Broadway Market’s foodie scene include:

Dar Tooting, serving Mediterranean food influenced by the rich cultures of North Africa, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and more.

The Sea Garden & Grill, a modern British seafood restaurant that recently featured as Restaurant of the Week in a double-page spread in Time Out.

Barra 10, an Argentinian eatery specialising in steak, choripán, empanadas and ceviche.

A number of bars complement the food offering, such as Craft Tooting – serving a global range of craft beers; The Hill Station – Tooting’s smallest cocktail bar; Henny’s wine bar & bottle shop – recently expanding into two units having outgrown just the one and Tap 13 – a zero waste tap bar.

Mr. Shanji, whose Time Specialist business has been in Broadway Market since 1970. He specialises in the sale and repair of watches and clocks of every possible kind and his shop is an Aladdin’s Cave of wonderful timepieces.

Freddie & Ken, mainstays of the Tooting Meat Shop that has stood in the market for over 75 years. This traditional local butchers serves a huge range of quality meats, including free range & organic.

Graham, owner of Market Pets, who has worked at the business for the last 39 years. Market Pets sells tropical & coldwater fish, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and pet supplies.

Broadway Market is open Monday 9.30am to 7pm, Tuesday – Thursday 9.30am – 11.30pm, Friday & Saturday 9.30am – midnight and Sundays 10am – 5pm, with two entrances located on Tooting High Street and an entrance on Longmead Road.
