Volunteering opportunities in Tooting and South London

Volunteering opportunities in Tooting and South London

Got some spare time to help a fantastic local charity? Kavita Bowry, Communications and Development Manager at Share Community with details of volunteering opportunities at Share, based on your interests and areas of expertise.

Like most charities, Share Community only thrives with the help of our wonderful and dedicated volunteers. And we certainly couldn’t do and achieve what we do without them.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them their own skills, interests and passion all to support our students’ independence and wellbeing. Last year, this amazing band of people gave us 3,850 hours of their time – many of these volunteers are regular volunteers or social buddies for our Go Anywhere, Do Anything project, but some are also corporate volunteers who have just the odd day or two available for volunteering as part of their workplace’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes.

At Share, our volunteering programme involves a structured introduction to our work with people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs, and provides a range of opportunities to get involved based on your interests, experience and skills.

We’re always looking for new volunteers (check out our previous blog to read some of our volunteer stories) to help in all areas of our work, so if you have some spare time and want to get involved and become a part of our lovely community, we’d love to hear from you!

We teach catering, digital skills, independent living skills and basic skills at our facilities in Battersea, and horticulture at our 2.5-acre garden in Tooting, based within the grounds of Springfield University Hospital. In addition, we provide a range of programmes aimed at personal development, and health and wellbeing, such as yoga, zumba, creative writing and music. And all of these projects need volunteers to support them.

We run a full volunteer induction so you get to learn about all aspects of the charity, and if you choose to volunteer with us you will also get the chance to attend training courses based on your work with us, so you get to pick up new skills and valuable work experience.
