Introducing Minar Jewellers, Diamond Specialists in Tooting!

Introducing Minar Jewellers, Diamond Specialists in Tooting!

Minar Jewellers has been a firm fixture on Tooting’s high street and an integral part of the local community since 1982.

The business, which specialises in the sale and repair of both modern and traditional jewellery, has been owned and run by the Pattni family for the last 16 years, led by Mr Pravin Pattni. Pravin, a professional gemmologist, has worked in the jewellery industry for the last 38 years and was a previous Chairman of The National Association of Goldsmiths. Pravin is also the Deputy Chairman of the Tooting Business Network, which provides a forum for local businesses.

Awarded 2017 Jewellers of the Year at the British Asian Wedding Awards, Minar Jewellers focuses on the retail of 22 carat gold jewellery, astrological gemstones, bespoke jewellery, diamond jewellery, and VAT-free gold investment. Pravin is an expert in finding a diamond ideal for every occasion.

One of the core principles of Minar Jewellers is their strict ethical policy – they ensure that their suppliers comply with their ethical policy of neither using child labour, nor those who have poor working conditions, in the supply chain.

“Where the manufacturers supply diamond or gemstone set jewellery, they give us written confirmation that they have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict in compliance with U.N. resolutions. The suppliers undertake to confirm that to the best of their knowledge the diamonds and the gemstones are conflict-free based on verbal and or written statements provided by their suppliers of these diamonds and or gemstones in rough or polished form,” says Pravin.

“We want to be an important part of our local community,” says Pravin. “We work hard to provide a professional service for our clients and are proud to have either won or been nominated on multiple occasions at the Wandsworth Business Awards. It’s therefore vital that we give back to the community and support local organisations and projects.

“We work with Share who provide support to local disabled people who need extra help to achieve their potential and are also a proud supporter of BATCA (Balham and Tooting Community Association) and their annual Community Fun Day. The next one is coming up on Saturday 22nd September.

“We also work very closely with both of the Karamsad and Dhamarj Samaj’s here in South London. A samaj is basically the Gujarati word for association and Karamsad and Dhamarj are two places in Guarat, a state in North West India. So the Karamsad and Dhamarj Samaj's are associations for expats from these two places. We provide funding to ensure that less-fortunate members of these groups can fully enjoy cultural and community events, including the major annual festivals such as Divali. A big focus now is on the young people in these organisations and helping them to recognise their Eastern culture, whilst combining it with the taste of the West.

“I have seen Tooting change a huge amount over the years. What has been a constant throughout this period, however, has been the strong and vibrant community which we are so lucky to have here in the town and which Minar Jewellers is very proud to be a part of.”
