Earlier this year, Happy Dog Plumbing welcomed a new young apprentice, Saphron Baker, from neighbouring Mitcham to join their growing team.

Under the mentorship of our most experienced engineer, Martin Steer, Saphron is gaining the experience needed to become a fully fledged plumber in her own right. MD Ed Barros said “We’re delighted to have Saphron as part of the team. Aside from being an already very competent engineer, she brings energy and enthusiasm to everything she does and I am sure that it will not be long until she is out on her own as a mobile engineer. It is also nice to have a female engineer in the company to give a fresh perspective in a traditionally male dominated industry.”

Saphron said, “I chose plumbing because I have always been a hands-on person and like fixing things, taking them apart and putting them back together again, and I thought I would enjoy plumbing – which luckily is the case! I thought it might be hard for a female to get into plumbing but found it quite easy; however, you definitely get treated differently in the trade for being female.  Most customers are shocked to see a female plumber but this is usually a pleasant surprise for them.”

We look forward to sharing her development and achievements in the future. Welcome to the team Saphron!
