Sprout Arts in Furzedown welcomes their first Artist in Residence

Sprout Arts in Furzedown welcomes their first Artist in Residence

Eugene Macki

January sees the start of a new venture by Sprout Arts when Eugene Macki, a London based visual artist, becomes the first Artist in Residence in Sprout.

Eugene will use the gallery as a studio to generate a new body of work which he will share with the public as it develops. Everyone is invited to drop in at between January 8th – 26th and see what’s going on and talk to him in person.

You can also attend Sprout for a show and conversation with Eugene on Thursday January 24th between 6:30pm to 9pm

The Artist in Residence scheme aims to give the public an insight into the working methods and thought processes of an artist as their ideas develop, and to offer the artist the opportunity to respond to and create new work specifically triggered by the experience of being in a new space. The artist’s work will evolve during the time of the residency and is not preconceived or necessarily following their usual style.

No one knows at this point what type of work will appear and this is both the challenge and the exciting side of a residency. You can see Eugene’s portfolio at and follow him on Twitter.

Sprout’s opening times in the Sprout Art gallery during the residency are:

  • Tuesday 8th January to Friday 11th January: 11.00am – 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 16th January to Saturday 19th January: 11.00am – 5.00pm
  • Thursday 24th January: 11.00am – 5.00pm
Exhibition Private View (Sprout members) 6.30 – 9.00pm
  • Friday 25th January - Saturday 26th January: 11.00am – 5.00pm

If you have any questions or if you are part of an art group or school and would like to arrange a meeting with Eugene, please contact Julia at or visit
