St George's Hospital Charity host St George’s Hero Awards
On 16 May 2019 St George’s Hospital Charity, based at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, held the St George’s Hero Awards at Wandsworth Civic Suite, hosted by TV presenter and actress Lorraine Kelly.
The evening saw hundreds of staff and supporters of St George’s Hospital Charity come together to celebrate the amazing work of the hospitals.
“Every day we hear about the incredible work our staff do,” said Jacqueline Totterdell, Chief Executive of St George’s Trust, “so it was a pleasure to be able to recognise some of our amazing contributions at last week’s ceremony. We were also touched by the number of patients and relatives of patients that told us just how caring and attentive our staff are. This was lovely to hear, and testament to the strength of feeling for St George’s and Queen Mary’s in the community.”
With so many amazing individuals in the room it was incredibly difficult to pick winners, but in the end the top honours went to:
- Team of the Year: The Staff Flu Vaccination team and the Specialist Nurses in Organ Donation team
- Volunteer of the Year: Alan Bowen, St George’s Hospital Charity
- Innovation of the Year: New Beginnings
- Rising Star: Stacey Lane, General Porter
- Lifetime Achievement: Karen Marks, Acting Deputy Head of the South West Thames Genetics Laboratory
- Inspirational Leader: Professor Asma Khalil, Consultant Obstetrician
- Unsung Hero: Pearl Livingstone, Admin & Pathway Co-ordinator
- The Katherine Award – Lifesaver of the Year: Dr Thomas Breen, Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Donovan Duffy, Consultant Neonatologist, Mr Zahid Mukhtar, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and teams
The charity would like to thank everyone involved in making the evening’s awards possible, and to Pelican London Hotel & Residence and Yellow Brick for sponsoring the event.
