Tooting eateries to give out free children's meals for half term

A number of Tooting eateries are giving out free meals to children affected by the non-extension of free school meals this October half term.

The BEYRoots Lebanese Street Food eatery, based in Broadway Market, said, “For any youth in the Tooting area affected....we are happy to offer you guys an amazing lunch from 12-2.30pm on us for 2 weeks starting from next week. (We are open for lunch Wednesday - Saturday). This is at our discretion so just come up to us and mention it and we’ll get you fed. Parents accompanying their kids are more than welcome to eat too!”

BEYRoots is located in the left-hand front entrance to Broadway Market, halfway down on the right-hand side.
 

The Royal Mahal (previously Spice Village) Indian restaurant said, “For those that usually receive a free school meal please email us and we will arrange for your free Royal Mahal meal to be collected throughout the October half term (26th-30th October). Parents, please email info@royalmahal.co.uk along with your name and select one of the following dishes for us to prepare for your child. ⠀

* Chicken Curry with Pilao Rice ⠀
* Chicken Karahi with Pilao Rice ⠀
* Punjabi Cholay (Channa Masala) with Pilao Rice⠀
* Tharka Dhaal (lentils) with Pilao Rice⠀

“We will then email you with collection details. Collection will take place between 12 and 2pm. We request all customers to respect standard Social distancing guidelines.”

Royal Mahal is located at 32-36 Upper Tooting Rd, SW17 7PD.
 

Sista Hub in Furzedown is providing free meals for children. Collection available from 114 Mitcham Lane, SW16 6NR between 12 and 3pm. Their menu for this period will be on their Instagram page. Please email fahima_mustafe@hotmail.com or call 020 7041 8176 to let them know how many meals you require. 
 

Communion Coffee are offering any child a free school meal over the next two weeks. DM them on Instagram or pop in to 21 Trinity Rd, SW17 7SD between 11am-1pm and just mention “Free School Meals.”


Bordelaise in Broadway Market are offering free meals for kids during half term from Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 2.30pm with pasta, steaks, fresh fish with sides and ice cream available. Children must be accompanied by a parent. Parents do not have to eat or spend money.


Meat & Shake are offering free school meals to children Monday to Sunday, 12pm-3pm, with free fruit also available. Please contact Usama, the owner, at usama@meatandshake.com for more details. Meat & Shake is located at 47 Upper Tooting Road, SW17 7TR


Jam Delish at 725 Garratt Lane, SW17 0PD are offering free vegan meals to children, Thursday 29th October to Saturday 31st October and Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th November, 12pm-2pm. Just pop into their kitchen and mention “Free School Meals.” Email jamdelish@outlook.com for more details.


Coffee In The Wood at 99-101 High Street Colliers Wood, SW19 2JF are offering free lunches to any child who won’t be able to get a free school lunch 26th-30th October. Please email hello@coffeeinthewood.co.uk by 4:30pm the day before and they’ll have it ready for collection the next day. 


Taştê Kurdish Food at 91 Mitcham Rd, SW17 9PD is offering a free school meal to all children who require it, 26th October to 1st November.
Just pop in and mention 'Free School Meal' or DM them on Instagram. Each child can choose one meal from below. 
1.Lentil soup with bread
2. Eggs, chips and homemade beans
3. Sausage, egg and cheese wrap with salad 
 And a carton of fruit juice.
 

The Wheatsheaf Pub at 2 Upper Tooting Rd, SW17 7PG will be giving out free school meals for anyone who needs them. Just pop in between 11am and 1pm, 26-30 October to collect a portion of pasta, a piece of fruit, a snack and a juice box for your child – no questions asked. 


Coffee Max at 242 Upper Tooting Road, SW17 7EX are offering children a free meal, 12pm-2pm. See their Instagram for more details.


Tooting resident and teacher Caiti Walter has set up a page to raise money that will be directed towards Tooting businesses that are able to provide food and meals for children and families in need. You can donate at bit.ly/tnewsie377


Wandsworth Foodbank help families all year round with food and provisions. You can find out more and donate here.
 

Tooting Community Projects are offering free family packs consisting of food, toiletry products and nappies to support local families during half term. Collection: Reception, Trident Business Centre, 89 Bickersteth Road, SW17 9SH.
Times: Monday – Friday, walk in between 10:00 – 13:00
